Discovery Days was created in 1925 by local historian Honoria Tuomey to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of Bodega Bay by Spanish explorer Don Juan Francisco Bodega y Quadra.
The modern Discovery Days will be a moveable “pop up” festival to explore the history of various locales within the Rancho Bodega region. The first Discovery Days will consist of six walking tours of Bodega each day, with local actors in costume portraying historical characters who were key to the founding and development of Bodega, from the late 1800’s to 1960’s. The actors will perform short vignettes to tell about their character. Included is a rare opportunity to tour St. Teresa’s Church, a gem of Bodega featured by famous photographer Ansel Adams.
We are particularly excited about including local children in the production, who will perform music, dance, and act. Lunch options for tour-goers include box lunches by Estero Café, available by pre-order with ticket purchase, or purchased lunches at the Bodega Country Market or The Casino.
The “Hall of History” in Bodega’s McCaughey Hall will be open to the public at no charge.
